30 Years of Teaching in the Community

Located in Viedma, Río Negro, Argentina, GAIA Ecological School has been serving the community since 1994.

Our vision is forward-thinking, embracing the challenges of the current millennium and new perspectives regarding valued knowledge.

This is how we take on the challenge of living and demonstrating a different way of doing things, embracing a deeper commitment to humanity, and building a democratic model of institutional coexistence where joy, warmth, and love for others provide the foundation for high-level academic teaching.

WHY GAIA?

GAIA is the name the Greeks gave to the goddess of the Earth.

Scientist James Lovelock’s Gaia Theory suggests that all life on Earth is interconnected,

forming a living system known as GAIA.

Today, GAIA’s vitality is at serious risk, and time is running out.

But there is something that can save it—consciousness.

More and more people are becoming aware of this situation. Some join small organizations like environmental activists and NGOs, while others, like us, focus on raising awareness through education in kindergartens, schools, and training workshops.

Caring for the planet’s health thus becomes the sacred task of raising awareness over unawareness.

It’s about working toward a deep, harmonious, and lasting change.

PREPARATION CENTRE

In 2016, GAIA partnered with Cambridge University Press and Cambridge English Language Assessment, two departments of Cambridge University, one of the world’s top universities.

For four years, we were a Cambridge English School, and in 2021, we became a Preparation Centre, offering a program that prepares our students to take exams through Cambridge Language Assessment and Trinity College London.

From Pre-School and Kindergarten through Secondary School, we support our students with an intensive schedule to help them navigate language learning and prepare for the international exams that reflect their progress in mastering the language, while earning internationally recognized certifications.

In Primary School, our students take the Young Learners exams: Starters, Movers, and Flyers, as well as GESE Grades 1-4.

At the Secondary level, they take Cambridge English exams: Key, Preliminary, and First, along with GESE Grades 4-12.

APPOINTMENT BOOKING & GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS

In addition to the platform we introduced last year in 2022 for booking appointments for administrative tasks and picking up uniforms, we have added a new Management section on our website where parents can notify excused absences or request specific documents. For this, they will need to log in to our website and navigate to the "My Tasks" tab.

DIGITAL PLATFORMS

As of in 2020, our school has transitioned to Google Workspace, which all members of our community can access with an institutional account. Each subject has its own Google Classroom. We have also implemented a shared institutional calendar for quick access to links for all virtual meetings. Additionally, we use Shared Units, where each student and their family can find information about the organization.

In the 2021 school year, we launched a new communication platform for institutional life—the GAIA Newsletter!

The newsletter is sent directly to each member of our community, but all updates are also posted on our website blog so that everyone can interact, like posts, and leave comments!
